Investment Analyst or Associate, Ventures

Job Function

The position will join at Analyst/Associate level within a small and experienced entrepreneurial team, who are making significant venture and growth investments in companies with cost-effective technologies for minimising the greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint. The position will work across the origination and execution of transactions, following the investment throughout its life cycle. You will gain portfolio and asset management experience and a thorough understanding of the key technologies in the focus areas of methane mitigation, carbon capture use and storage, energy efficiency and transportation.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Screening and scouting for suitable investment opportunities.
  • Playing an active role in due diligence including financing modelling and scenario analysis.
  • Market analysis, risk assessments, and competitive landscape overviews.
  • Play a role in Climate Investment’s Venture Days and other events to help promote dealflow.
  • Work with potential partners/co-investors.

Main Responsibility and Accountabilities

  • To participate in and contribute to all aspects of the deal process with key responsibility for initial quantitative and qualitative analysis of deal pipeline.
  • To perform detailed sector and thematic research and analysis to help increase the amount of quality dealflow.
  • To conduct due diligence and assist with deal execution and transaction management.
  • To prepare financial models and cash return scenarios.
  • To prepare materials for the Investment Committee and other internal meetings.
  • To work across various team functions e.g. legal and finance to support the investments.
  • To keep up-to-date on portfolio performance and address any specific requests for action or approval.
  • To liaise with Finance with regards to reporting of portfolio and year-end valuations.

Education and Professional Qualifications
  • Degree in finance, accounting, economics, or engineering.
  • MBA and/or technical background is a plus.

Experience and Technical Competencies

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Ability to produce and interpret financial statements.
  • Ability to produce concise and accurate investment reports.
  • Excellent organisation skills, including prioritisation, forward planning and administration.
  • Strong performance track record in previous roles, ideally with global organisations.
  • Strong sense of commerciality, knows what makes commercial sense, and ability to identify key risks.
  • Significant expertise creating and presenting analyses and presentations with Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, and Word.
  • Relevant professional experience in energy and/or finance which can include but not limited to: private equity, venture capital, investment banking, corporate finance, or management consulting.

  • Ability to judge and maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion on sensitive issues.
  • Fluent in English; other languages a plus.

Additional Information

  • Position is based in the US or UK. (For the US our preference would be for candidates to be domiciled within commuting distance of one of our Hub locations - Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Houston, Chicago, Washington D.C.).
  • Eligibility to live and work in the US or UK is essential.
  • The role will involve domestic and international travel, as required.
  • Diverse locations of OGCI CI may result in out of hours meetings/calls, as required.
