Commercialisation Manager

Job Function

This role will have an initial focus on commercialisation and scaled deployment of Climate Investments (CI’s) methane detection/measurement/mitigation portfolio but would be expected over time to encompass other CI low carbon technology focus areas.

The incumbent will drive commercial growth and success of our portfolio companies so that they can rapidly deliver significant CO2 and methane emissions reduction.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Actively support deployment of CI portfolio companies to drive impact.
  • Help investees develop customers; translate customer needs and buying constraints/requirements into investee business models to achieve commercial success.
  • Identify policies that would support methane deployment and help the investees translate into opportunities with the support of the OGCI networks.
  • Work with governments, NGOs, and co-investors to identify opportunities for achieving scale in different regions.

Main Responsibility and Accountabilities

  • To work with select portfolio companies, develop business plans to scale and deploy commercially viable methane detection/measurement/mitigation technologies.
  • To engage closely with the portfolio companies’ management teams to ensure practical, realistic, milestone-based plans which have the buy-in and support of both management and the portfolio company’s board.
  • To identify, co-ordinate, & implement pilots of portfolio company technologies at member and non-member companies worldwide, paving the way for commercial scale deployment.
  • To work closely with key personnel at member companies to initiate and execute the pilots, develop case studies, and facilitate the sharing of key learnings from the pilots.
  • To facilitate the path to commercialisation and achieving scale by helping portfolio companies successfully navigate the internal processes of their customers.
  • To build relationships and introduce our portfolio companies to O&G executives, Operational Leaders, & HSE and procurement/supply chain leaders in member and non-member companies.
  • To connect with industry experts on relevant regulations & policy (initially, North America and EU) and bring insights and connections to our portfolio companies to facilitate their growth activities.
  • To actively work with portfolio companies to help them take existing and emerging policy frameworks to create new business opportunities for their technologies.  
  • To lead Climate Investments interactions with the OGCI Role of Gas workstream, Methane Guiding Principles, the European Commission, World Bank (e.g., GGFR) and other organisations; facilitate/co-ordinate necessary actions with our portfolio companies.
  • To identify regional policies which could be used to help drive deployment and scaling.

Education and Professional Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or relevant physical sciences.
  • MBA desirable.
  • Strong background in upstream and midstream O&G production operations, with a good understanding of methane emission pain points.
  • Demonstrated track record of commercialising new technologies.

Experience and Technical Competencies

  • Experience in commercialisation, particularly in relation to new technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in scale-up and commercialisation of projects with a broad scope to manufacturing scale. This ideally includes experience in project structuring and financing as well as market development and operational scale-up. Experience could be with venture start-ups and/or projects.
  • Ability to interface with people in diverse functions such as Engineering, Operations, Finance, R&D, both within OGCI and externally; ability to work across different levels of organisations.
  • Strong business and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in upstream facilities engineering with an operator, EPC or equipment manufacturing company.
  • Experience with costing and economic analysis of emissions abatement initiatives would be very useful.
  • Understanding and experience of regulatory issues and process improvement related to methane emissions.
  • Experience in presenting projects to senior management.
  • Experience in technical sales a strong advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly understand new technical and business challenges and how to solve them.
  • Global experience is preferred.

Additional Information

  • Position is based in the UK.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK is mandatory.
  • International travel will be required from time to time.
  • Diverse locations of OGCI CI may result in out of hours meetings/calls, as required.
